Full Day Hike in the Krkonoše/Karkonosze – Spring of the Labe River

This hike is for rather experienced hikers only! It’s up to everyone individually to decide whether you are in condition for that, or not. If you are used to hiking in the Alpes, this will be a (lazy) Saturday stroll for you as no mountains in Czechia are hardcore, if you are not used to hiking though, bear in mind these are the highest mountains in Czechia and you will have to make around 800 m elevation.

The weather forecast FINALLY looks better, so I would like to make a good use of the few last nice, warm days we have left for this speacial hike. Join me for a hike to our highest mountain range – Krkonoše, Spring of Czechia’s major river, and one of the longest rivers in Europe – Elbe (labe), crossing the ridge to the Polish Karkonosze.



As a reward, except for nice views, and the spring of the Labe, you can get some oscypek or other farmer products in Szklarska Poręba. This time I’m reserving the full day so we have enough time to enjoy everything with no rush, and finish the day by dinner in Polish Szklarska Poręba.



This is the approximate trail, around 21-22 km long, but I reserve the right to change the trail on the go according however I/we feel like 😀

HIGHLIGHTS:

– Quite a few waterfall (the biggest you can find in CZ)

– many many nice views over the mountains, valleys, gorges rocks etc….

– the spring of the Elbe river

– a small insight to Poland where you can buy some (home-made) Polish products. They used to have good (and cheese) and other farm products there



This event is free of charge, but any contribution for organizing and to cover the subscription fees is more than welcome (100 CZK is just fine, but it’s totally up to you how much you think the trip was worth, your financial possibilities etc)



We are meeting at the bus station Praha-Černý Most (terminus of the yellow B metro line) at platform 2 at 7:45. From the metro platform you have to go down the stairs.



Arrival back in Praha, Florenc at 22:20.



Please, take some food/snacks with you, although there should be a possibility to get something at Labská bouda (cabin).

Also, wear adequate shoes, solid shows for hiking and clothes – it may get chilly, especially in the evening.

PLUS, some Polish Zloty is needed if you want to buy something/have dinner in Poland. In restaurants they “usually” accept cards though.



COSTS: around 400-450 for the transportation (plus whatever you want to spend extra)



IMPORTANT: I know that someone would ask, so: Everyone is responsible for themselves, I don’t take any responsibility for anyone. It’s your own business whether you comply with current restrictions.

I don’t want to give you this idea, but if you asked, for me this is a transit with less than 12h stay so nothing to care about. Just don’t forget to bring some Polish zloty with you 😊
